Upper Bangor has experienced a noticeable reduction in student footfall and day-to-day activity, leaving parts of the district quieter and placing pressure on independent businesses. The proposal identifies a small car park between existing character buildings as an underused site with the potential to become a new social anchor for the area.
The Corner Market Café reimagines that gap as a contemporary black-steel and glass venue inspired by European market halls and greenhouse cafés. Warm lighting, transparent façades, greenery and a covered rear garden create an all-weather space that can stand out against the surrounding period architecture while still fitting comfortably within the existing street.
The concept is designed as more than a coffee shop. It could support morning coffee, study sessions, evening dining and community events, with opportunities for vertical planting or small-scale urban growing. The aim is to turn a passive parking site into an active piece of place-making that brings people together and helps generate new footfall for Upper Bangor.
